SCALLY is a piece that examines the emancipation of queer guilt through community and sex work. The play follows porn-star Stevie as he embarks on the tricky and confusing process of recovery after an ongoing chem-sex addiction. The play skips back and forth - almost like Stevie’s fever dream - fusing together embarrassment and pride at the slightest trigger. At its heart this is a play about the necessity of connection and the unbridled and dedicated love of a mother and son.
The piece began its life in 2020 at part of Soho Writers Lab. With the assistance of dramaturgy, smaller readings and interviews and research from those within the sex work industry, it seemed like the right moment to put it on its feet. The script can be accessed here:
The show is very physical and so in next steps I’d like to experiment with the movement and design aspect of the show. Any notes and feedback would be greatly appreciated. To read the script or watch the full R&D send me a message.
